In the Southern Derby of the Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 8 runs. After posting a huge total of 226/6 in 20 overs, CSK restricted RCB to 218/8 in their batting quota. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, along with Glen Maxwell, put up a show while trying to win the game but eventually failed to do so.
Du Plessis, in his innings, scored 62 off 33 balls, while Maxwell hammered in amazing innings of 76 runs off 36 balls. But more than his on-field performance, his fitness had people talking. The former South African skipper was playing with an injured rib and was treated during the game. To get strapped on his injury, Du Plessis had to put off his shirt which gave glimpses of his perfect physique and abs. This sent Twitter into a frenzy with praise for his fitness.
Putting everything else aside, Du Plessis’ commitment to the game was evident in how he battled through his injury and continued to swing the bat. During the post-match press conference, the RCB skipper disclosed that he had injured his rib while fielding early on in the game during the post-game presentation. “Early on in the match, when I was diving and I just hurt by rib. As the innings went on, I was in discomfort but hopefully, it is not too bad,” he said.
Faf du Plessis failed to pull off the game
However, despite his amazing batting performance, Faf du Plessis led Bangalore and failed to clinch the game and lost the match by 8 runs. While chasing 227, Bangalore lost early wickets and was crumbling against CSK’s pace attack. To rescue his team Du Plessis, along with Glen Maxwell, took the charge.
The overseas duo added 126 runs for the third wicket but eventually failed to cross the line. This is CSK’s third victory in five games and the team is currently third positioned in the points table. On the other hand, RCB lost the third game of the season and with four points they are in 7th position in the points table.
