The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini auction took place in Dubai on December 19. During this time, fast bowlers received the most of the money and offers were made for several older players. But during the auctions, a few players who were anticipated to make a lot of money were not sold. Steve Smith, Tabraiz Shamsi, Keshav Maharaj was one of the biggest players in the Indian Premier League at one point of time, but now is one of the players who struggled to manage a spot in any teams’ squads. Let’s take a look at some of the players who went unsold during the IPL Auctions 2024.
Top 5 unsold players from IPL Auctions 2024
5) Josh Hazelwood
Due to his unavailability in March and April, the highly sought-after Australian fast bowler, who is known for his consistency across format, was not sold. Hazlewood intends to arrive during the first week of May and anticipates his first kid. However, the player’s inability to play for a month shouldn’t be the only factor used by teams to pass on them. May is usually the end time for the Indian Premier League and his arrival at that time might just be useless.
4) Adil Rashid
Remarkably, despite having a base price of INR 2 crore, the renowned right-arm wrist spinner, who was outstanding in T20Is went unsold. His stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad proved to be a disappointing one since he could not make a significant mark on the tournament. He was most of the time in and out of the playing XI. The English spinner was not able to cement his place in the team and might be one of the reasons why he remained unsold.
3) Karun Nair
On Tuesday, the first round of bidding saw Indian batter Karun Nair go unsold. Nair was not sold despite having a base price of Rs 50 lakh. Nair played for the Rajasthan-based team in the 2023 season. The 32-year-old played in 76 Indian Premier League games and amassed 1496 runs during the opulent Twenty20 competition. This one was shocking to say the least since he is an Indian batter and that commodity is very less in the league.
2) Phil Salt
Despite his base price of INR 1.50 Crore, the aggressive English wicketkeeper-batsman, disappointingly failed to find a buyer. He scored 218 runs in nine games, making for a respectable effort. He was among a number of players released by the Delhi-based team last month, which ended ninth in the standings. Many foreign wicket keepers were able to secure contracts in the auction. But Salt, who has amassed 601 runs in 19 T20I innings, was unsuccessful in landing a deal.
1) Josh Inglis
The Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, who had a base price of INR 2 crore, did not find a buyer. This happened despite his outstanding performance, which included a century in the opening Twenty20 International match against India. He is another Australian World Cup superstar who was predicted to garner high prices during the IPL Auction. Inglis may have gone unnoticed by the teams at first when his name got called out in the main round and then again in the expedited round due to his high base price of Rs 2 crore.
