Australia’s star opener David Warner has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests of the four-match Test series against India. It is reported that he flew back home. Earlier, Australian captain Pat Cummins had also flown back home due to family health reasons but is likely to come back before the third Test, which will kick off on March 1 in Indore.

Warner is likely to return back for the three-match ODI series against India. The left-handed batter suffered multiple blows on his body in the first innings of the second Test. He got hit on his left elbow by Mohammed Siraj and two overs later, he got hit on his helmet again by Siraj and was replaced by Matt Renshaw as a concussion substitute.

“David Warner has been ruled out of the Qantas test tour of India and will return home.  Warner was struck on the elbow in the second Test in Delhi and sustained a hairline fracture,” CA said in a statement.

“After further assessment, he will require a period of rehabilitation which will preclude any further involvement in the remainder of the Test series. It is currently anticipated that he will return to India for the three One-Day Internationals which follow the Test Series.”

We are in no rush to make any decisions: Australia’s head coach

This series was very important for the left-hander as he was out of form in the longest format for a while. His career is considered to be in danger in Tests as many youngsters like Travis Head and Matt Renshaw are eyeing a spot in the squad. Warner had a great opportunity to make big runs in the series, but he was able to score only 11 runs in the first Test of the series and scored 15 runs in the first innings of the second Test.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald talked about Warner’s injury and said that the management is in no rush to make any decisions. “He (Warner) is still sore at the moment. We are in no rush to make any decisions at this point in time around Davey. There is a bit of unknown there.” McDonald was quoted as saying by India Today.
