The riveting action in the Hundred 2022 continued on Thursday as Oval Invincibles and Northern Superchargers went head-to-head against each other at the Kennington Oval. The Jason Roy-led side won the toss and decided to field first. Their openers Adam Lyth and captain Faf Du Plessis walked out to open the innings for the Superchargers.

Lyth looked in fine touch right from the word go as he began plundering boundaries with ease. Du Plessis struggled at the other end and couldn’t get himself going before finally getting out to Sam Curran after scoring nine off ten balls.

After losing their first wicket, Lyth continued his aggressive strokeplay as the other batters played second fiddle to him. The bowlers just didn’t have any answer to his scintillating shots as he kept on finding boundaries. Lyth was finally dismissed after scoring a brilliant 79 off 33 balls on the score of 117 after 72 balls.

Courtesy of his breathtaking innings, the Superchargers managed to reach a total of 157 runs in their allotted 100 balls for the loss of seven wickets. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers who picked up three wickets for 11 runs in 20 balls.

The Invincibles’ chase began in the worst possible manner as they lost their captain Jason Roy on the second ball of their innings. After Roy departed on a duck, Sunil Narine and Rilee Rossouw also went back to the pavilion quickly and the Invincibles were left reeling at 21/3. Jordan Cox and Sam Curran came together at the crease and decided to take their team out of misery by adding 67 runs for the fourth wicket.

A miscommunication ended their partnership as Jordan Cox’s innings ended after scoring 48 off 29 balls. After losing his partner, Sam Curran went berserk and launched an all-out attack on the Superchargers as he added 42 runs for the sixth wicket along with Hilton Cartwright who only contributed five runs in the partnership. Sam Curran was finally dismissed for a well-made 60 off 39 balls with his team requiring 21 off 11 balls for a win.

Sam’s brother Tom Curran made sure that his brother’s innings doesn’t go in vain as he provided a terrific finish to the chase by scoring 18 off 7 balls taking his team to victory with 3 balls left. Sam Curran was awarded Player of the Match for his incredible knock and picking up a wicket.
