With the mini-auction done and dusted, the ten teams will now be preparing for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League. The auction room in Kochi saw some great action as teams got into a few bidding wars. The all-rounders were in great demand in the auction and went for hefty prices. While some of the teams had a great day and built a squad as per their requirements, others did not have the best day. In this article, we’ll have a look at the worst teams based on their squads in Indian T20 League 2023.

#1 Hyderabad

The Hyderabad team had the most money left going into the auction and was expected to have a successful day. They did not, however, plan properly and did not target the big names. They did manage to get some good players for the season, but they lack quality match-winners.

The other challenge they face for the upcoming season is the captaincy. Having released Kane Williamson earlier, Hyderabad were looking for a new leader, and they managed to buy Mayank Agarwal. However, there is no guarantee as to who will lead the team in the upcoming season.

#2 Kolkata

Kolkata, like Hyderabad, had a bad day at the auction, failing to land any big names. In addition, the team was unable to address their major issues of finding an opener and a wicketkeeper. They also do not have many backups on their team.

The biggest positive for the Kolkata team is their bowling lineup. Kolkata will look to get some good results with the ball now that Shardul Thakur and David Wiese have been added to the team. It remains to be seen how they manage their playing XI for the season.

#3 Punjab

Punjab, the 2014 finalist, had the biggest buys not only in this edition but in the history of the Indian T20 League auction. They bagged English all-rounder Sam Curran for a whopping price of 18.5 crores. They also got their hands on Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikander Raza at the auction.

However, despite a great auction, Punjab lacks depth in their Indian players. Apart from captain Shikhar Dhawan and the young pace sensation Arshdeep Singh, Punjab does not have a stable Indian core. They will now look to groom some other young talent for the season.
