The Indian T20 League 2022 has culminated with the Hardik Pandya-led side Gujarat emerging as the champions in their debut season. Gujarat contested against Rajasthan in the summit clash for the title. On the day of final Gujarat dominated the Men in Pink to clinch their maiden title.
While Rajasthan were playing their second final in the history of the tournament after their title-winning effort in the inaugural edition of the tournament they failed to maintain their 100 percent win record in the finals of the tournament. While there were some stand-out performances from certain players for Sanju Samson’s side, there were also some glaring loopholes that turned out to be the prime reasons why Rajasthan failed to win their second ITL title.
Here we take a look at the prime reasons for Rajasthan’s failure to win the title.
1. Over dependency of Jos Buttler in batting: Jos Buttler had the best Indian T20 League season this year. He scored 863 runs in the season at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05.
Rajasthan depended too much on Buttler in their batting efforts. It was mostly upon him to set up the stage and then also go for the kill, while others were good enough for supporting roles. This caused them about 25-30 runs in the final, where Buttler found it hard to go about his business fluently. So, Rajasthan lacked another batter who could have shared the responsibilities with Buttler.
