The match could’ve turned in India’s favour had they not made these mistakes.

The second fixture of the Super 4s stage between India and Pakistan turned out to be a mouth-watering contest for the crowd. Both the teams gave their all on the field, but it was Pakistan who emerged victorious in the all-important clash. The Indian bowlers failed to defend 181 and their batting also lost momentum mid-way through the innings. There were many important moments in the game that team India failed to grab and ended up losing the game. Let’s take look at three reasons why India lost last night’s match against Pakistan:

Losing their way in the middle overs

The Indian openers gave an electrifying start to the team as they scored 55 runs in 5.1 overs. The Indian batters further went on to score 93 runs in the first 10 overs. However, they couldn’t quite capitalize on their explosive start and failed to reach the mark of 200 in 20 overs. The back-to-back dismissals of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya in the 13th and 14th over put breaks on the scoring rate of India. The new batter Deepak Hooda failed to get his innings going and managed just 16 off 14 balls before getting dismissed.

Bringing Deepak Hooda in place of Ravindra Jadeja

The Indian team had big shoes to fill as Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. They decided to go with Deepak Hooda in Jadeja’s place and didn’t even bring him on with the ball. The like-for-like replacement for Jadeja would’ve been Axar Patel, who would’ve been way too handy with the ball. Patel could also play a great cameo lower down the order and finish matches for the team.

Catch drop by Arshdeep Singh

The match was tilting towards India in the 17th over as Pakistan batters failed to hit Ravi Bishnoi. An opportunity came India’s way as Asif Ali mistimed a shot that went high up in the air. But Arshdeep Singh, who was stationed at short third man, failed to grab a sitter. The moment hurt India big time as Asif Ali went on to score 16 off just 8 balls and took his time closer to victory. Asif’s dismissal at that stage would’ve made a lot of difference as it would be difficult for a new batter to come in and start hitting from ball one.
