Three Reasons Why Delhi Failed To Win Indian T20 League 2022
The team finished fifth in the points table
Ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022, Delhi were one of the contenders to win the title. After the auction, they had one of the most balanced squads in the season. However, the team finished fifth, courtesy of losing to bottom-placed Mumbai in their do-or-die game. This was the first time since 2018 when they finished outside of the playoffs.
They had set great standards in the last three seasons which is why the fans were disappointed with the team’s performance. There are many reasons for the team didn’t do well. In this listicle, we will discuss three reasons why Delhi failed to win the Indian T20 League 2022.
Three reasons Delhi failed to win the title

Losing a few key players in the auction
If a mega auction can enable a team to start from scratch and build a strong side, it can also bring a disadvantage to already stronger teams as they might lose players thanks to aggressive bidding from the opposition. The same things happened with the 2020 finalists.
The team had lost players such as Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Ravichandran Ashwin, Avesh Khan, Shreyas Iyer, and Shimron Hetmyer to other teams. These players were an integral part of the team and have won quite a few games for the team. This season, these players did well for their respective teams and were dearly missed by Delhi.
2. Failing to put together two wins in most of the season
For a team to enter the playoffs, it is important for them to be consistent in terms of winning games. However, apart from the business end, the team failed to keep their winning momentum going after every win. The only time they put together consecutive wins were in their 12th and 13th game against Rajasthan and Punjab respectively. This inconsistency kept them under pressure during the business end, which is why they crumbled in their last game.
3. Not giving enough chances to young Indian talents
The team had some of the talented Indian players such as Yash Dhull, Srikar Bharat, Sarfaraz Khan, Chetan Sakariya, etc. Dhull didn’t play a single game while the likes of Bharat, Khan, and Sakariya didn’t get too many games despite some of the players not doing well. Dhull was coming off a great U19 World Cup campaign while Khan had a great domestic season. Talking about Bharat and Sakariya, they had a good season in 2021. One can only imagine what could have the results if these players had gotten enough opportunities during the season
