Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably one of the greatest ever football players is going through a transfer standoff with his current club Manchester United. The 37-year-old has publicly shown a desire to play for a Champions League team this season.

Naturally, the in-demand player was linked with many clubs along with hundred of reports emerging on a potential new move. None of these transfer rumours came to fruition, however, and Ronaldo was forced to stay at the Manchester club that is going through a disastrous spell.

Recently, the star footballer has swept away all rumours and hit back at the media for “telling lies”. A comment made by the Manchester United forward expresses his frustration at the constant news coming his way.

Commenting on an Instagram post speculating his future, the Real Madrid legend wrote, “They will know the truth when I give an interview in a couple of weeks. The media is telling lies. I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip.”

An air of uncertainty around Ronaldo and Manchester United

Ronaldo, whose return to Manchester United has not turned out the way he thought, has been in constant clash with the media in the past. Just a month ago, Ronaldo clapped back at the media saying, “Impossible not to talk about me one day. Otherwise, the press makes no money. You know that if you don’t lie you can’t get people’s attention. Keep going that one day you got some news right. “

Last season, Ronaldo returned to Manchester United after 12 years to take his legacy forward. United which was already going through a bad phase continued to fall further and ended up finishing outside of the Champions League places in the 2021 season.

The appointment of new manager Erik Ten Hag proves to do nothing as the Red Devils lost the first two matches of the Premier League 2022/23 season in what is their worst ever start to the campaign. Manchester United play against arch-rivals Liverpool in the next game on August 23rd, a game that will be boycotted by United supporters as a protest against the Glazers.
