Shreyas Iyer

Star India batter Shreyas Iyer has been suffering from a back injury for a long time and is currently missing most of the cricket. The 28-year-old batter is reportedly out of action for a long time after his injury resurfaced during the 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. Iyer has been suggested to undergo back surgery to fully recover from the injury by a Mumbai-based spine specialist. However, according to some recent reports, the batter is exploring other options before taking final decisions.

In a recent news report, it is stated that Iyer doesn’t want to undergo surgery because it will rule him out for almost six or seven months. This will rule out his chances to participate in the Indian T20 League and more importantly ODI World Cup. Indian Cricket Board along with experts of the National Cricket Academy are monitoring his injury but the final call will be made by Iyer itself.

According to Cricbuzz Mumbai, the batter is trying to find another solution so that he can be fully fit for the World Cup as it is one of the biggest opportunities in his career. Although, he is currently on 10-day bed rest as recommended by the Mumbai-based Spine specialist. Notably, Iyer first got injured during India’s tour of Bangladesh and made his comeback in the second game of BGT23.

Shreyas Iyer’s injury spoiled India’s plans

Indian team is currently suffering from Injuries as they are already missing the services of two-star players i.e. Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. Now, Iyer’s injury has increased the tension in the team management as the Test Championship finals and World Cup is on cards. Iyer has been India’s best middle-order batter in recent times and his injury has created a void in the batting lineup.

In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav was made to play against Australia and he failed bizarrely. Surya scored three consecutive golden ducks and India lost the series by 2-1. India will expect Iyer to be fully fit for the Test Championship which is set to be played from June 7 in The Oval cricket ground in London.

Meanwhile, fans react to the reports of Iyer not opting for surgery and gave a mixed reaction. Some people praised him for being selfless while some called it a bad decision as it could reoccur during the big event. A Twitter user said, “Kuch bhi karo Bumrah mat banna bas.”
