The tenth match of the Women’s Asia Cup was held between Pakistan and Thailand on Thursday at Sylhet Cricket Stadium, Sylhet. Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen walked out to the middle to give a great start to their team.

However, their plans were destroyed by Thipatcha Putthawong, who removed Ali for a score of 25 after 4.2 overs. Captain Maroof also followed her shortly as she got involved in a runout after failing to get going, leaving Pakistan at 43/2 after eight overs. Sornnarin Tippoch got rid of Nida Dar to give her side their third success which left Pakistan at 84/3 in 15.5 overs. While wickets fell regularly at the other end Sidra Ameen held the innings together with her solid innings.

She kept the scoreboard moving but other batters failed to provide her support from the other end. Thailand’s bowlers were top-notch on the field and kept Pakistan to a score of only 116/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Thailand’s chase got off to a decent start as openers Nannapat Koncharoenkai and Natthakan Chantham added 40 runs for the first wicket. However, Pakistan bowlers made a comeback by giving a double blow to Thailand on the score of 40. Wrist spinner Tuba Hassan picked up a couple of wickets in the ninth over.

Opener Chantham was unfazed by the wickets falling at the other end as she continued to take the scoreboard ahead. She added 42 runs for the third wicket with skipper Naruemol Chaiwai. Pakistan once again made a comeback into the match as they picked up the next four wickets for the next 23 runs. Thailand lost the crucial wicket of Chantham, who departed after scoring a magnificent 61 off 51 balls, leaving her side with 12 required off 8 balls for victory.

Rosenan Kanoh provided the finishing touch to the innings as Thailand beat Pakistan by four wickets with a ball to spare. This was Thailand’s first victory in the competition after losing their first two encounters.
