There is no doubt that Suryakumar Yadav has conquered the T20I format in no time, and his performance in the second match against New Zealand is proof of that. He got his second hundred in the game’s shortest format. Suryakumar stamped his authority at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval after capping off a sensational 20-20 World Cup campaign in Australia.
The 32-year-old gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. After leading India to a famous victory over Kane Williamson‘s side, Suryakumar was asked about his long-awaited debut in the game’s longest format.
“Aa raha hain, woh (Test selection) bhi aa raha hain (coming, that is also coming,” Suryakumar responded
“When we start playing cricket we start with red ball and I have also played first-class cricket for my Mumbai team… it was quite okay, so I have a fair idea about the Test format and I enjoy playing that format also. Hopefully, I will get the Test cap soon,” Suryakumar said at the post-match press conference.
Suryakumar Yadav’s dominance in T20Is
Suryakumar remained unbeaten on 111 off 51 balls as India totalled 191-6 in 20 overs. While he dominated the New Zealand bowling attack, the bowling team also had a moment of high. Tim Southee took a hat-trick in the final over of the first innings. In response, Kane Williamson-led New Zealand was bowled out for 126 in 18.5 overs, giving India a 65-run victory over the 20-20 World Cup 2022 semi-finalists.
After the first match at Sky Stadium in Wellington was washed out, the Men in Blue registered a 65-run victory at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The final T20I of the series will be played at McLean Park in Napier on the 22nd of November.
Suryakumar, who recently became the top-ranked batter in the shortest format, has only played 13 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 41 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for India. Last year, the Mumbai superstar made his international debut against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
