Sunrisers Hyderabad reveal new skipper ahead of the 17th edition of Indian Premier League

Aiden Markram’s demotion seems unjust and unfair to some fans as of now.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia that won the World Cup, was named by SunRisers Hyderabad on Monday. He would be leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign. Cummins was purchased at auction in 2023 for an astounding Rs 20.5 crore. He will replace South Africa’s Aiden Markram as the team’s captain. Markram led the Orange Army to a disappointing 4 wins out of 14 games in 2023.

As previously indicated, even with a well-rounded roster, SRH’s 2023 season was unremarkable. This year’s addition of Travis Head and Cummins, two players who were instrumental in Australia’s 2023 World Cup victory, has only strengthened the Orange Army’s squad.

Prior to playing his first-ever game for SRH, Cummins made it clear that he felt India was like a second home. He said in an interview with Star Sports that, “India is like a second home. We spend so much time here. IPL you’ve got your home teams. So you actually feel like you’ve got plenty of fans Or, you know, at least cricket fans that have, you know, supported you or, you know, lots of people come up to me and say, Oh, I’m from Kolkata or I go for KKR. So it’s nice feeling like not everyone’s against you.”

Who are Sunrisers Hyderabad playing in the opening game of the IPL 2024?

According to the partial schedule that was made public last week, the defending champions will play the Kolkata Knight Riders. Their IPL 2024 opening match on March 23 will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

When the Election Commission of India determines the dates of the General Election, which is anticipated to conflict with the two-month extravaganza, the whole programme for the upcoming season will be made public. Last season, the southern-India franchise finished at the bottom of the league standings. SRH will be hopeful that Cummins might take the team to the playoffs this season. They have a great overseas contingent and would look to put that to the best use possible.
