During the RCB v LSG game in the ongoing IPL 2023, Virat Kohli‘s half-century was brought under scrutiny by Simon Doull. The latter was on a commentary stint during the game and pointed out Kohli slowing down a bit after the powerplay. This became a matter of discussion and whether he might have continued to be aggressive against the spinners right after the powerplay.
Meanwhile, ahead of the ongoing game against Delhi Capitals, the former RCB skipper has responded on the role of anchor. He started by saying that it is something that is definitely important for a team. Kohli added that other people see the game differently
“Yeah for sure (important anchor role). I completely agree with that, There are many people who because they have not been in that situation themselves, they look at the game differently,” Kohli told Robin Uthappa in an interview for JioCinema.
After the powerplay, you try to figure out what the other bowler is doing: Virat Kohli
The right-hander further added that after the end of the powerplay, usually one of the opposition’s best bowlers comes in to bowl. The Delhi player emphasises the important on seeing off the first two overs after the powerplay.
“Suddenly when the powerplay is done, they will be like ‘oh, they have started rotating the strike’. When you haven’t lost a wicket in the powerplay, usually the best player comes on to bowl, you are trying to figure out what to do against him in the first two overs, so that you can get big ones in the last two overs of that guy and then rest of the innings become much easier,” he added.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing game against DC, Kohli scored another fifty and got out trying to accelerate.
This is how Twitter reacted
"Anchor roles are important," then why did England recently win the T20 World Cup? Also, West Indies have won, it a couple of times.
This is just a way to justify statpadding. Never accept criticism.

Becoming anchor is just an excuse to make personal milestones

While chasing a reasonable target, anchoring is important, but when you are batting first and no wicket has fallen in the powerplay, you should try to put pressure on the spinners. Especially when it's a batting pitch like chinaswamy

This Anchoring Thing Is Good For Low Scores But This Creates Lots Of Pressure On Other Batsman (Like After Playing 40 Balls,Rashid Khan Comes And Unplayable Delivery And All Ruined ? )

Virat Kohli is trying to cover his own batting with this statement. He anchors and makes big scores. The rest of the batsman take risk and lose their wicket. If he is best batsman of team, he needs to bat in best strike rate. Now we know RCB will never win IPL.

When it comes to skills, we should be learning and listening to those who have done at the highest level (pro cricketers) or scientists (such as Dr. Cross).
When it comes to analysis, cricketers commit a lot of mistakes too. Analysts might have that ability to convert thoseā¦ https://t.co/jjpyJjmsxB
