Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah makes significant jump in latest Test rankings, Kohli and Rohit also witness surge
Indian batters Virat Kohli (775) and Rohit Sharma (748) moved to the sixth and tenth positions, respectively.
Following Australia’s dominant series win against Pakistan in Sydney and the historic India-South Africa Test at Newlands, notable changes have occurred in the men’s test rankings. In the bowling department, India’s Jasprit Bumrah rose to the fourth spot (787), surpassing Ravindra Jadeja.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj’s stellar performance lifted him 13 places to a career-best 17th rank (661). South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi climbed nine spots to 28th place, and Australian skipper Pat Cummins claimed the second spot (858), surpassing Kagiso Rabada. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood tied for seventh place (761) with England’s James Anderson.
In the batting rankings, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne reached the fourth spot (802), while Steve Smith maintained the third position (818). Pakistan’s wicketkeeper, Mohammad Rizwan, jumped 10 places to secure the 17th spot after impressive knocks of 88 and 28. Aiden Markram entered the top 20 (667) after his resilient century at Newlands.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma get back in the top 10
Indian batters Virat Kohli (775) and Rohit Sharma (748) moved to the sixth and tenth positions, respectively. However, in the ODI format, Sri Lanka’s series against Zimbabwe saw significant movements in the rankings. Spinner Maheesh Theekshana achieved a career-high rating (634) and an 11th rank after claiming four wickets.
Sri Lanka’s batter, Charith Asalanka, with 101 runs, entered the top 20 in the batting rankings. The updated rankings reflect the exceptional performances across recent Test matches and ODIs, showcasing the dynamic nature of player standings in international cricket. It’s worth noting that India will now look to prepare for the upcoming T20i series against Afghanistan.
The three-match series will start on January 11 at Mohali Cricket Stadium. After this, India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, will take on England in a five-match Test series starting on January 25 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The team will be keen to have a great home season ahead of the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup.
