Delhi’s opening batter, Prithvi Shaw missed out on the game against Hyderabad this week. In that game, Mandeep Singh replaced him and opened the batting alongside David Warner. Assistant coach Shane Watson had said that Shaw is expected to be fit for the ongoing game against Chennai. However, the right-hander was admitted to a hospital which means that he is not playing the game.

The circumstances of his admission remain unclear but the cricketer took to Instagram and informed the development to his fans. The 22-year-old took uploaded an image of himself laying on a hospital bed on his Instagram story. The 2018 U19 World Cup-winning skipper thanked his fans for the wishes they sent him and assured his fans of returning to the playing field soon.

“Admitted in hospital and recovering from fever. Thank you all for your good wishes. Will be back in action soon,” the cricketer wrote in his story while also posting his smiling picture in the hospital.

The opening batter has done well with the bat this season. He has scored 259 runs in nine games averaging 28.77 and striking at 159.87 including two half-centuries. His side is currently battling to qualify for the playoffs. Till now, they have won five and lost as many and need to win at least three out of four games for the playoffs qualification.

The 2020 finalists are currently playing against defending champions Chennai at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai. After winning the toss, the Rishabh Pant-led side elected to bowl first. However, at the time of writing, the decision has proved costly. The four-time winners have accumulated 84/0 in nine overs. Openers, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad have taken the attack on the opposition.

Conway is batting on 50 off 28 balls including three fours and four sixes. On the other hand, Gaikwad is batting on 30 off 27 balls including a six and two fours. If Delhi gets to chase a high total, they might miss the services of their regular opening batter, who can take the attack on the opposition right from the word go.
