At Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, India overcame their bitter rival Pakistan by a score of 4-0 to win the league stage in the Asian Champions Trophy and take the top spot in the points standings.
Early on, Pakistan held control of the game, and in the second minute, Muhammad Sufyan Khan attempted a shot on goal. With a fantastic drag flick in the waning seconds of the first quarter, Harmanpreet Singh netted the game’s opening goal.
India maintained its lead throughout the second half as well as was awarded a penalty corner early in the period. In the 23rd minute, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh extended his team’s advantage. India had a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first half and were in a commanding position while starting the second half.
India scored its third goal from the penalty corner. To hit the mark, Jugraj Singh dominated Akmal Hussain. India persisted in attacking and came close to scoring twice more during the third quarter. Akashdeep squandered a simple chance to score during the 43rd minute when he missed the target with his shot.
Pakistan attempted a counterattack in the final round of play but was unable to get past the Indian defence. India played competitively all the way to the end, and in the waning seconds, Akashdeep Singh increased the advantage to 4-0.
In the waning seconds of the game, Pakistan was awarded another penalty corner, but they were once again unable to score, allowing India to easily defeat their traditional rivals.
South Korea qualify for Semi-finals
South Korea lost against Malaysia in the second game of the day as the Speedy Tigers struck in the second quarter to take home the win. Throughout the first quarter, neither team was able to hit the goal, therefore both teams got off to a slow start. In actuality, Malaysia was awarded just one penalty corner during the quarter.
Malaysia received recognition for their energetic performance throughout the second quarter. The Speedy Tigers scored through Abu Kamal Azrai. A few minutes later, the reigning champions were awarded consecutive penalty corners, however, they were unsuccessful in scoring. Malaysia eventually maintained their composure better and took the game 1-0.
