In Bollywood, things are not easy for outsiders. Artists who emerge from non-filmic environments frequently lack mentors or influential figures to assist them. Numerous such success stories have been emphasized amid the expanding discussion concerning nepotism in the industry. One of them features an actress who, prior to becoming well-known, attended over a thousand auditions and was turned down multiple times. Yes, we are talking about none other than Sobhita Dhulipala.
Model Sobhita Dhulipala started her career in the early 2010s. The actress’s biggest claim to fame at the time was her participation in the 2013 Miss India pageant, where she placed as a finalist. She had no connections to the entertainment or fashion industries. Sobhita reminisced in a recent interview that she must have conducted over a thousand interviews during that time and experienced a high rate of rejection.
Inspiring journey of Sobhita Dhulipala:
The actress Sobhita Dhulipala revealed at an ABP event, “I had no ties to the movie industry. I was only able to apply through auditions. In addition, I briefly worked as a model after graduating. You attend ad auditions in addition to being a model. But I auditioned and gave myself three years. I must have done 1,000 auditions in my life.”
Sobhita had previously mentioned in an interview that she’d been told she wasn’t attractive or fair enough for a number of advertisements or roles. She stated, “All you do when you first start out is fight. I’m not a movie star. During my ad auditions, I seem to have been told multiple times that I’m not ‘gori’ enough. I was told straight up to my face that I’m not attractive enough, like in ads.”

With Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival and led to the actress’s nomination for best performance, Sobhita Dhulipala made her feature debut in 2015. Later, she became well-known as the main character in ‘Made in Heaven’, an Emmy-nominated series on Amazon Prime Video. ‘Ponniyin Selvan‘, a two-part historical epic directed by Mani Ratnam, featured Sobhita in a supporting role in 2022 and 2023. At the box office, the two movies took in more than Rs 800 crore combined. Sobhita will make her Hollywood debut this year in the thriller ‘Monkey Man‘, which is directed by Dev Patel and is set in India.
