The Road Safety World Series has brought back nostalgia from the 90s and the 2000s for cricket fans. Fans have so far been vowed by Sachin Tendulkar, Stuart Binny, Tilakartane Dilshan, Jonty Rhodes, Shane Watson and many other legends of the game.

Match fourth brought another exciting game when New Zealand Legends met South Africa Legends in the Road Safety World Series. The Ross Taylor-led Kisi side elected to bat first after winning the toss. The decision however turned out to be a bad one as the NZ side lost their very first wicket at just one run. Aaron Redmond (3) was the next to depart at a team score of 18.

Dean Brownlie (48) held the innings from one side and missed his half-century by just two runs. None of the other batters however string a significant partnership and the team could only muster 99 runs in 20 overs.

The duo of Johan Botha (4) and Thandi Tshabalala (3) proved deadly for NZ’s batter as the two combined to take seven wickets.

Coming onto chase what was a very small total, the SA Legends team got off to a good start as openers Morne van Wyk (14) and Andrew Puttick combined to take the SA side to 34 before their first wicket fell.

Puttick continued with Alviro Petersen and came up with a match-winning half-century in just 36 deliveries. Petersen supported the opener from the other end with a knock of 29 in 23 as SA clinched an easy win at the end.

After losing to India in the first match, the SA team rose back with a high-quality win and now moves to rank four on the points table. It has two points from two matches and an NRR of -0.258.

Meanwhile, the hosts India Legends stay at the top with two points in one match and an NRR of +3.050. Sri Lanka and West Indies legends are the next two teams on the points table.

Twitter was buzzing after watching their favourite former players take part in the great game again. Let’s see how Twitter reacted to it.
