It would be safe to say that the first match of the highly anticipated Road Safety World Series did not disappoint. Featuring exclusive legends of the game, the first match between Indian Legends and South Africa Legends turned back time for everyone and brought enormous nostalgia.

Coming to the match, the Indian Legends won the first challenge of toss and decided to bat first. The Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar walked in with huge aplomb with Naman Ojha to set the target on the board. The two got off nicely and brought a partnership of 46 before the first wicket fell. Sachin looked in great touch and played some world-class shots before he was removed by Makhaya Ntini.

Recently retired Suresh Raina walked in next and added 33 runs to the board with his four boundaries and one six. It was however Stuart Binny who was the top scorer for the team as he hit an unbeaten 82 in just 42 deliveries featuring five boundaries and six sixes. With the help of Yusuf Pathan’s unbeaten 35, the Indian Legends were able to reach 217/4 in 20 overs. Johan van der Wath was South Africa’s best bowler having taken two wickets.

Coming on to the chase, the South Africa Legends team got off to a decent start as both openers got past 20 run mark. Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha however broke their partnership in the sixth over as he dismissed Andrew Puttick at 23. Morne van Wyk made 26 but none of the other batters apart from captain Jonty Rhodes (38) could come up with a big total. In the end, the South Africa Legends team could only produce 156/6 on the board and lost the match by a massive 61 runs.

Rahul Sharma led the Indian Legends’ bowling performance with three wickets whereas Munaf Patel and Ojha took two each to succumb the South African side to a defeat.
