In the intense Mumbai heat, Sri Lanka gained the toss and elected to field first. Being removed early meant that Rohit Sharma was deprived of a strong innings. However, every other batter attended the celebration. Despite missing their hundreds, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli produced a strong 189-run partnership. They both looked great for big tons and set the stage. However, Dilshan Madushanka, who finished with a fifer, nipped out both.
While attempting to accelerate, Shreyas Iyer was sent back for a well-made 82. India exceeded the 350 threshold by scoring highly in the majority of the passages. In the final ten overs, India scored 93 runs thanks to some crucial runs at the end from Ravindra Jadeja. The hosts set their neighbours a daunting total of 358 runs which would be a momentous task.
Although the slower ones are gripping, the surface is a batting gem and should be good under lights. Finding 357 is a tall order, especially considering how well-formed the Indian bowlers are. In a game where it was literally a do or die, SL had their work cut out for them.
Indian bowlers stun Sri Lanka to register huge win
The Indian bowlers were on fire against Sri Lanka and that left everyone in disbelief. Mohammed Siraj absolutely dismantled Sri Lanka’s entire top order. With the ball, Mohammed Siraj produced a blistering and spectacular performance, taking three wickets in only eight balls without giving up a run. Mohammed Shami joined the side when he was unable to repel the Siraj attack.
When Sri Lanka reached 14 runs after 10 overs, they had already lost 6 wickets. After scoring eleven, Angelo Matthews lingered for a while, but Shami got rid of him and a few more tailenders to record a well-earned fifer. India won the game by a massive margin of 302 runs and have now advanced to the knockout stages of the ODI World Cup 2023.
