Barcelona defeated archrival Real Madrid 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday, extending their lead at the top of the table to 12 points with the same number of games remaining. It dealt a significant blow to Real Madrid’s La Liga ambitions, as the Catalan giants are now unbeaten in three games against their bitter rivals in all competitions.

During the match, an incident in the match caught everyone’s attention. A Barcelona fan proposed to his girlfriend in the stands. The two celebrated their engagement with a win for their favourite game. An image of the same has gone viral over the internet.

As for the game, the visitors took the lead in the ninth minute thanks to an own goal by Ronald Araujo, before Sergi Roberto tied it up at halftime. Both teams had genuine chances to win the game. After a VAR review, Marco Asensio’s strike was ruled out for offside.

However, it was Franck Kessie who scored the game-winning goal from close range in the 92nd minute, thanks to a delightful pass from Alejandro Balde. The victory was Barcelona’s 100th Clasico victory and their first at home against Real Madrid since 2018. The Xavi-led side only needs one more win to level the series.

The match was overshadowed by the Barcelona corruption scandal as Florentino Perez did not attend. Xavi, on the other hand, encouraged his fans to come in large numbers, and Camp Nou was packed.

Last month, it was revealed that Barcelona had paid millions of euros to potentially benefit from refereeing decisions for more than a decade. Barcelona was paying a company that belonged to the country’s refereeing committee’s vice president.

After the international break, Barcelona will play Elche on April 2nd before facing Real Madrid again in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final on April 6th.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Barcelona fan’s proposal
