On Day 2 of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final between India and Australia at The Oval, India were in all sorts of trouble, losing five wickets before stumps. Australia scored a massive total of 469 runs with the help of centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. However, a four-wicket haul from Mohammed Siraj helped India close out the Australian innings on the day.

In response, India got the worst possible start as skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara all failed collectively, with none of them going past a score of 15. Rohit in his innings scored 15 runs off 26 balls with the help of two boundaries. He was dismissed by Australian skipper Pat Cummins. Notably, Rohit’s form over the last year or so has been a big concern for India and his inability to convert starts has cost team India.

Kohli scored 14 runs off 31 balls with the help of two boundaries before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc. On the other hand, Pujara also scored 14 runs and was dismissed by Cameron Green. However, after that India got some reprieve as allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane scored some runs and added 71 runs for the fifth wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja misses well-deserved half-century

Jadeja in his innings scored a magnificent 48 runs off 51 balls with the help of seven boundaries and a six. He looked comfortable on the pitch and batted well, however just a few overs before stumps, Nathan Lyon dismissed him. He along with Ajinkya Rahane added 71 runs for the fifth wicket to give India hope.

Meanwhile, Rahane in his innings scored unbeaten 29 runs off 71 balls with the help of four boundaries. He and wicketkeeper-batter Srikar Bharat added 9 runs off 21 balls and went unbeaten on Day 2. India, at stumps, trailed by 318 runs.
