Australia’s opening batter, David Warner is reportedly looking to retire from Test cricket after the home season this year. He hasn’t been on song in the longest format after his groin injury in late 2020. Since then, he has only one century, that too was a double hundred late last year. After reaching the landmark in a Test match against South Africa, Warner retired hurt.

Not to forget, he has been averaging between 30 to 40 in the last two years. Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming Test Championship final next week, the two-time World Cup winner has said that the home series against Pakistan might be his last in the white fannels.

“You’ve got to score runs. I’ve always said the (2024) World Cup would probably be my final game,” Warner said on Saturday.

“I probably owe it to myself and my family – if I can score runs here and continue to play back in Australia – I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies series.

“If I can get through this (WTC final and ensuing Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then.”

Would look to play 20-20 World Cup 2024: David Warner

Meanwhile, after the 20-20 World Cup last year, the Paddington-born had indicated towards leaving Test cricket after 2023. The 36-year-old also mentioned that the 2024 edition of the 20-over World Cup might be his last across formats.

“Test cricket will probably be the first one to fall off,” Warner said on Triple M’s Deadset Legends show.

“Because that’s how it will pan out. The T20 World Cup is in 2024, (one-day) World Cup next year.

“Potentially it could be my last 12 months in Test cricket.

“But I love the white-ball game; it’s amazing.”

“T20 cricket – I love the game. I will be looking to get to 2024,” the left-handed batter said.

“For all those people saying I am past it and a lot of those old people are past it, look out. Be careful what you wish for.”
