In response to commentator Sanjay Manjrekar’s reaction to the former opener’s name being at the top of the batters’ conversation rates list, former India cricketer Murali Vijay didn’t waste any time. The incident took place on Day 1 of the Test match between India and Australia.
When a statistic about conversion rates in Test cricket was shown on television during the Nagpur Test, Vijay topped the list among Indian batters playing in India. Sanjay appeared surprised by this. Vijay took to Twitter to lash out at the Ex-Mumbai cricketer.
Vjay was ranked first, followed by Mohammad Azharuddin, Poly Umrigar, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli on the list. Vijay took to Twitter to bash Manjrekar, writing, “Some Mumbai ex players can never be appreciative of the south ! #showsomelove #equality #fairplayforall @sanjaymanjrekar @BCCI.”
The right-handed batter, who announced his retirement from international cricket on January 30, 2023, last played for his country in the December 2018 Perth Test against Australia. He appeared in 61 Tests, 17 One-Day Internationals, and nine Twenty20 Internationals.
Vijay scored 3982 runs in 61 Tests at an average of 38.28, with the highest score of 167. He had 12 hundreds and 15 half-centuries in his career. He scored 339 runs in 17 ODIs and 169 runs in seven T20Is.
As for the game between India and Australia, India has dominated the proceedings so far. At first, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling exploits put the Kangaroos in trouble. The former took a five-wicket haul, while the latter took three to contain Australia to a score of 177 runs in the first innings.
After that, it was the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who dominated the game. He scored a half-century on the first day to put India in the driver’s seat. The skipper continued his form on the next day as well. At Lunch on Day 2, India managed to score 151/3, with Rohit (85 runs in 142 balls) and former Indian Captain Virat Kohli (12 runs in 25 balls) in the middle.
