‘Sahi samay par Modi ji se haath mila liya’ – Virat Kohli finally ends his Test century drought after 3 years, 3 months and 17 days in 4th BGT Test
Former India skipper Virat Kohli has broken the century-less streak of more than three years.
Former India skipper Virat Kohli was waiting for his Test century his hitting his last in late 2019 against Bangladesh. In what was India’s maiden pink-ball Test, he scored his previous Test hundred. Since then, he came close on a few occasions with some half-centuries. During the calendar years of 2020, 2021, and 2022, the right-hander hit six fifties combined with four coming in 2021.
During the period of 2020 and 2021, he wasn’t able to score a hundred in other formats. However, in September last year, during the Men’s Asia Cup, the Delhi player scored his maiden T20I hundred. In December last year, he ended his century drought in ODI cricket. Since then, he has hit two more hundred in the format, both coming against Sri Lanka in January this year.
However, the only format in which he didn’t hit a hundred was in red-ball cricket. In the series against Bangladesh last December, he was expected to get a hundred against a relatively weak bowling attack. However, that didn’t happen and the wait continued. In the first three Tests of the ongoing series, his highest score was 44 runs scored in Delhi on a low and turning track.
Virat Kohli’s wait for the Test century finally ends
In the ongoing game in Ahmedabad, the wicket has been the flattest one in the series so far. In the first three games, the pitches were helping the spinners. However, in the first four days of the ongoing game, the wicket has hardly given any assistance to spin bowlers. Meanwhile, like the Australian batters, the Indian batters have made the most of the surface. Shubman Gill scored a hundred while others came up with useful contributions.
When Virat came out to bat, he was anticipated to score a hundred on a flat surface. As it turned, he hit five fours to reach his 75th international hundred as he scored his hundredth run with a single towards the leg side off Nathan Lyon. He reached the landmark after playing 241 balls.
