The fourth match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been a delight for the batters. Australia batted for close to two days as they posted a massive total of 480 runs in the first innings. After that, India also had a great start to their innings, thanks to a fiery knock from Shubman Gill.

Gill opened the batting along with captain Rohit Sharma and added 36 runs at the end of Day 2. While the skipper departed early on Day 3, Gill continued his innings with ease. He built a very important 113-run partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara.

The opener quickly reached his half-century, but the boundaries dried up after that. India had not scored any boundaries for almost 16 overs, until Gill broke the jinx with back-to-back boundaries in his 80s. He then quickly shifted gears to complete his second Test century after that.

The 23-year-old has been in tremendous form in all formats since the start of 2023. He scored a double hundred against New Zealand in ODI and followed it with a hundred against them in T20Is. This year, he has now scored a century in the game’s longest format.

At tea on Day 3, Gill scored 103 runs in 197 balls, which includes 10 boundaries and a six. Right before the break, India lost the wicket of Pujara (42 runs in 121 balls). Virat Kohli is now in the middle with Gill. India has scored 188/2. They currently trail by 292 runs.

Earlier in the game, Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green were on fire, each reaching a century. While Khawaja scored 180 runs, the all-rounder (114 runs) scored his first Test century. The Baggy Greens batted for nearly two days, scoring 480 runs in the first innings. Ravichandran Ashwin’s six-wicket spell was India’s only saving grace with the ball.

In the meantime, Twitter has exploded with Shubman Gill’s century. “The best all format player India have at the moment! Rest all can be rotated or dropped but not him on his current form. A brilliant hundred it is n hope they keep coming as n when he wears that Indian jersey. Congratulations on the feat #ShubhmanGill,” a user wrote.
