‘Sabse badiya Test victory hai ye ab tak ki’ – Fans recall India’s 2021 victory when Virat Kohli clinched epic victory against England at Lord’s

Virat Kohli’s famous line, “Let’s give them hell for 60 overs” also came today during their team huddle going into the fourth innings

At Lord’s on August 16, 2021, Team India defeated England by 151 runs to earn one of their most historic Test victories. At one point towards the beginning of the final day, the Men in Blue looked down and out. But in addition to putting themselves in a winning status, the visitors knocked out England in just two sessions to secure the victory.

After the first innings, there wasn’t much separating the two teams, although there was just a 27-run lead margin in the favour of England. Nevertheless, India was struggling during their second innings and had a score of 194-7 at one point before an improbable partnership between Jasprit Bumrah along with Mohammed Shami turned the contest in their favour.

In order to assist India to reach a formidable target that could not be chased by the opposition, the two tail-enders scored 89 runs over the ninth wicket. Virat Kohli gave his bowlers and the fielders a heated pep talk, which inspired the pace attack to unleash hell on the opposition batting from the first over itself. Within the first 10 balls of the fourth innings, both of the openers were back in the pavilion.

In the last session, Team India still required six wickets, and England had no chance of winning. Right after the break, the visitors secured the key wicket of Joe Root, then Mohammed Siraj attacked off consecutive balls to get rid of Moeen Ali as well as Sam Curran.

Bumrah outwitted Ollie Robinson with a slow cutter, ending his vigil. With just under nine overs left in the day, India looked poised to win after Jos Buttler, their last known batsman, was bowled out.

Only a few deliveries later, Siraj got past James Anderson’s defence to secure the historic victory at Lord’s. Given that they were denied a victory in the first game of the series at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, due to weather, the victory gave the visitors a deserved 1-0 series lead after five games.
