Since India’s loss in the World Test Championship final 2023 loss, the talks of change in India’s captain in Test cricket have been going on. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the longest format of the game has been under criticism for a period of time. The WTC loss has only fuelled it further. Even though the Indian selectors have retained Sharma for the West Indies series, the change is inevitable as Sharma is already 36.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Men In Blue might make their debut in the Asian Games 2023 from September 23 to October 8. As the ODI World Cup 2023 will be around the corner, the Indian Board might send a second-string team. The decision on India’s participation will be taken on July 7. Meanwhile, former India cricketer, Dinesh Karthik has suggested that Ravichandran Ashwin is a deserving candidate to lead the team in the Asian Games.

“I genuinely wish, if India sends a B team to this Asian Games, because the main team will be preparing for the World Cup and if they feel Ashwin is not part of the ODI setup, I really hope and wish that they make him the captain cause I think he deserves it,” the wicketkeeper-batter said during an interaction in Chennai.

“I genuinely feel that he is somebody who has earned the right to be a captain of Team India for whatever achievements he has done.”

“I really hope and wish that the selectors take the call to make him the captain in the Asian Games which I think will be a feather on his hat that is something very well deserved for him,” the 38-year-old concluded.

On the other hand, it has been reported that discarded India opener Shikhar Dhawan might lead the team.
