Royal Challengers Bangalore make bizarre comparison between Virat Kohli-Naveen-ul-Haq and Marcelo-Cristiano

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq forgot about their earlier brawl and were happy to move forward from it.

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq

RCB compared the formerly at- odds Virat Kohli as well as Naveen-ul-Haq to those of the former Real Madrid teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo.

The event took place in Delhi during India’s match against Afghanistan at the 2023 ODI World Cup. Six months hardly passed before Kohli and Naveen got into a fight during an IPL match. The game involved Royal Challengers Bangalore as well as Lucknow Super Giants. The fight was viewed by viewers from all around the world.

In the ferocity of the moment, words were exchanged between RCB batsman Kohli and LSG speedster Naveen. Kohli entered the batting order on Wednesday as Team India hunted down a 273-run mark with 15 overs remaining. The two were very friendly to each other on the field this time around.

RCB’s comparison of the event to a fight between former Real Madrid players Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo seemed very bizarre. During the 2008 friendly game between Marcelo’s Brazil and Ronaldo’s Portugal, the two had faced off against one another. But only a year afterwards, Ronaldo made his way to Madrid, and the two’s conflict quickly faded into obscurity as they developed close friendships over the course of their nine wildly successful years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

We ended up fighting in an international fixture: Marcelo

In November 2008, after Brazil defeated Portugal 6-2 in a friendly, there was a brawl between Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, they quickly joined forces at Real Madrid and continued to play for close to ten years. Former player Marcelo, who is now retired, previously discussed his altercation with Ronaldo but noted that the two have since gotten along well. The left-back from Brazil further explained (through TRIBUNA), praising Ronaldo’s professionalism.

He said, “The first time I saw Ronaldo we ended up fighting in an international fixture. But we have a very good relationship, not only on the pitch, also off it. He is a great professional, he also helps his teammates very much, and he is happy when a teammate scores or provides an assist.”
