Cristiano Ronaldo, the striker from Al Nassr, has made a hilarious comment on Argentina Lionel Messi, who recently signed with Inter Miami, by claiming that the Saudi professional League is superior to Major League Soccer (MLS) and that European football has lost a lot of quality in recent years.

After a controversial exit from Manchester United after his second tenure there, Ronaldo signed for Al Nassr in January. Karim Benzema, Marcelo Brozovic, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy, along with Kalidou Koulibaly are just a few of the high-profile players that have signed contracts to play in the Saudi Pro League during the current transfer window.

“In a year the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and Dutch league.” : Cristiano Ronaldo

On Monday, Al Nassr played against Celta Vigo and were on the losing end of a 5-0 drubbing to the Spanish team. In a post-game interview with the media, Ronaldo asserted that the Saudi Pro League was superior than the MLS and that more players will soon relocate there. ESPN quoted him saying that, “Saudi league is better than MLS. In one year, more and more top players will come to Saudi. In a year the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and Dutch league.”

When Lionel Messi’s deal at PSG expired this summer, Al Hilal were eager to sign him. The Saudi Pro League team reportedly proposed the Argentine €500 million per season, and however they were unable to entice him to the Middle East and reignite his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo. This was according to Marca.

Messi acknowledged to Mundo Deportivo as well as SPORT that he received contract offers from European teams but chose to sign with Inter Miami. He said, “I’ve taken the decision that I am going to Miami. [I decided] to leave Europe. It’s true that I had offers from another European team but I didn’t even think about it because in Europe, my idea was only to go to Barcelona.”
