Rohit Sharma sets unique record with his appearance in 2nd T20I against Afghanistan

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has created history in the ongoing series against Afghanistan. After a long gap of 14 months, Rohit has been able to play a T20I match for India. With that, Rohit has a chance to get some exposure in the format ahead of the T20 WC 2024. Rohit is known for breaking many records in cricket. But the one against Afghanistan is a huge milestone.

The Indian captain is playing the second T20I of the series against Afghanistan, which makes him the first-ever player to appear in 150 T20I matches. Rohit made a comeback to T20Is and assumed the role of the Indian captain in the 1st T20I against Afghanistan at Mohali. He became the first and only player to date to play 150 matches in the format.

In as many matches, Rohit is the batter to have hit the greatest number of sixes. The Indian opener has the record for hitting the greatest number of sixes in T20Is. In addition to it, Rohit is the batter with the second most number of runs in the format. The star batter is only behind his teammate Virat Kohli in the list of highest run-getters in T20Is.

India’s changes for the second T20I

In his 150th T20I match, Rohit won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Indian captain announced a couple of changes for India in the match. With the return of Virat Kohli, someone had to sit out. Tilak Varma, who batted at number 3 in the first T20I in the absence of Virat, has been excluded from the playing XI. There has also been another change in the XI for India.

Shubman Gill has been dropped by the Indian team for the 2nd T20I, owing to his not-so-impressive record over the last few months in the format. Yashasvi Jaiswal has come in for Gill. The Southpaw has been impressive so far in the chances he has got. Additionally, Yashasvi can also roll his arms over and give some overs as a bowler, which brings an added element to the playing XI.
