Kusal Perera arrived first, but Kusal Mendis took the stage next. In the opening game for Sri Lanka, against South Africa, he demonstrated his potential with eight sixes. Pathum Nissanka, who played brilliantly for his 50, was initially with them. After Nissanka left, Mendis engaged the opening head-to-head, and then it became his turn to perform.
He merely played with the shoddy bowling, notably from Shadab, who consistently bowled poorly, to score Sri Lanka’s fastest-ever ODI World Cup hundred. Mendis played the leggie pretty easily because most of his deliveries were short and wide. Babar and company appeared bewildered on the pitch as Rauf went short and was put over deep square leg.
After reaching 100, Mendis made the decision to take a risk and holed out. Samarawickrama persisted and proceeded to play charmingly. Such a beautiful stroke player, yet he stayed undetected until he reached 100.
After Mendis was dismissed, Pakistan attempted a comeback as Hasan Ali claimed a few wickets, however, Sri Lanka will be pleased with 344. The bowlers, apart from Hasan Ali, were handled with ease. Pakistan currently faces a challenging pursuit since players like Rauf, as well as Shaheen, had a bad day.
Sri Lanka bowlers’ brilliance takes them to victory
Dilshan Madushanka took both of Pakistan’s two wickets during the first powerplay in response. Skipper Babar Azam was choked to death for 10 while Imam was sent out for 12. They were in trouble, but Pakistan retaliated and did it magnificently.
Mohammad Rizwan settled in, and Abdullah Shafique batted with ease. The two set the ship straight before quickening the pace of their knock. Matheesha Pathirana had difficulty managing his lines as well as lengths since the spinners were not let to settle.
Rizwan recorded his fourth 50+ total in five ODI innings, while Shafique achieved his first ODI century. Hemantha made an amazing grab to remove Shafique for 113. Sri Lanka, however, was unable to seize the opportunity. Rizwan led his team home as he scored yet another century. While playing a masterful game of innings management, he finished the job for his team.
