Legendary Australian cricketer, Ricky Ponting has labeled Virat Kohli as the greatest white-ball cricketer he has ever witnessed in the game. Touted as the run machine, Virat Kohli is currently the sixth-highest run-getter in one-day internationals, only behind the likes of Tendulkar, Ponting, Sangakarra, Jayasuriya, and Jayawardene.
Besides, he is tied with Ricky Ponting for the second most number of tons in International cricket. As of now, Virat Kohli has 71 international centuries to his name. Sachin Tendulkar sits at the top of the list with 100 centuries.
Kohli is currently playing for India in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. During the warm-up match between India and Australia, Ricky Ponting labelled Virat Kohli as the greatest white-ball cricketer. While doing the commentary on air, Ponting heaped praise on Kohli and shed light on his staggering records in ODI cricket.
“He has led his team really well. The win in Australia in the Test series in Australia is amazing. Not sure I’ve seen a better white-ball cricketer ever. What he does in One-Day International cricket is unbelievable. His records are amazing,” said Ponting from the commentary box.
In the warm-up match against Australia, Kohli scored 19 runs in 13 balls. He made a substantial contribution on the field as the former Indian skipper pulled off an unbelievable run-out and also took a screamer while stationed at the long-on boundary. His fielding efforts helped India snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
