Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir retired from international cricket in late 2020. He cited mistreatment from the likes of Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis as they were part of the coaching staff. Since then, Amir has been playing in leagues across the globe. However, more than two years after his retirement, the selectors have reportedly the left-arm pacer to be ready for the national comeback.

Even though nothing is confirmed, the selectors have reportedly told the two-time World Championship winner to restrain from making unnecessary statements. Apparently, Amir has been critical of Babar Azam’s captaincy and has been claiming favoritism in the side. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how the fans react to it when things are official.

Mohammad Amir can play if he takes his retirement back: Najam Sethi

Meanwhile, a few months back, PCB chairperson, Najam Sethi was asked about Amir’s comeback to the team. The former replied by saying that Amir needs to take back his retirement. Sethi added that a match-fixing convict shouldn’t play for Pakistan only if they haven’t served their punishment.

“Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back. I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty,” said Sethi.

On the other hand, the PCB chief selector Haroon Rashid said that players need to think before giving statements.

“I feel players should take decisions after careful consideration. Your single statement can cause controversy. In my opinion, players should focus on their cricket,” Haroon said.

“In Amir’s case, I am not sure about his status. I have heard he is thinking of taking his retirement back. It is good that he is playing. If he continues to perform, he will be in contention for selection like other players,” he added.
