Salman Butt took a shot at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in his latest YouTube video, just days after the PCB issued a legal notice against Kamran Akmal, his former teammate. According to reports earlier this week, the notice was issued to the wicketkeeper-batter for allegedly making defamatory and offensive comments while interacting with the media.
A source close to Kamran confirmed that he received a notice from the board’s legal department, served on behalf of chairman Ramiz Raja. “I don’t know exactly what charges they have made against Kamran but apparently the legal notice has been sent because the chairman feels Kamran made defamatory, false and offensive comments on the media about him,” the source said.
Butt shared his thoughts on the subject, saying: “Rehne de ye show? Kahi legal notice na aa jaaye (Should we stop the show? Else we might also get legal notice)”. He also stated that there is nothing wrong with putting forth an opinion, especially if it is based on personal experience. Akmal has represented Pakistan in all three formats, appearing 58 times in the shorter format.
“Speaking about technical aspects, giving your opinion and speaking based on your experience, especially those who have much more of it than policy-makers is fine. You cannot challenge opinions. You can convince people with your explanation, logic and reasoning,” added Butt.
We should not cross the line: Salman Butt
Butt did, however, caution fans and experts against making personal attacks or crossing the line.
“There is one more thing here. If we are talking about something, it should not personally hit anyone. We should not cross the line with regard to someone’s personality, looks and personal lives. We have no right to do that. Nor does anyone else have a right to cross the line against us. If someone has done it, people should refrain from such things,” the former Pakistan opener stated further.
According to reports, the PCB has informed its legal team that any comments made by a former player on his YouTube channel or while interacting with the media are defamatory, offensive, personal, false, and damaging to Pakistan cricket.
