Ravi Shastri has returned to commentary after his stint as the Head Coach of the Indian Men’s cricket team. He has a great following because of his style behind the mic. Shastri has made some of the iconic moments of Indian cricket even more memorable with his commentary. Be it the 2011 World Cup-winning moment or the time when Sachin Tendulkar scored the first-ever double hundred in ODI cricket. He is also famous for not holding back when it comes to expressing his opinion about a player or any on-field moment. His recent comments about the star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja have grabbed attention.
Notably, Ravindra Jadeja was handed over the captaincy duties of the Chennai franchise ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. The four-time champions had a terrible run under him losing six of their first eight matches. The all-rounder’s on-field performance was also on the decline because of the added responsibilities. Consequently, Jadeja relinquished captaincy and handed it back to MS Dhoni. Since MSD’s return at the helm of the Chennai team, the Men in Yellow have won two of the three matches they played.
Shastri has expressed his opinion about Ravindra Jadeja, the captain on ESPNcricinfo’s T20 Time Out.
“He (Jadeja) is not a natural captain. He hasn’t captained at any level. So, to give him the responsibility I thought was a little hard on Jadeja. People might want to judge Jaddu, but it’s not his fault. He hasn’t captained anywhere. He looked a fish out of water, totally out of place and he’s far better off playing as a player,â€- Shastri said.
“Because he’s one of the best around in the business when it comes to allrounders. So let him just focus on his cricket. That (Jadeja’s captaincy) cost Chennai a few games early on. If you see the form they’re now if they had this going early on, they’ll be right up there in the mix,â€- he added.
