“Profit mein se Hindu Kashmiri ko kitna donate kiya?…” – Veteran actress Asha Parekh slams The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri

Asha Parekh expresses concern over The Kashmir Files creators’ lack of financial assistance for Hindus in Jammu. The movie is both directed and produced by Vivek Agnihotri. Veteran actor Asha Parekh criticised The Kashmir Files’ producers for not providing a portion of their profits to aid Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir who are “without water and electricity.”

Asha was questioned about ‘controversial’ films like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story (2023). Both of which earned well at the box office, during an interview with CNBC Awaaz. In response, the actor questioned what viewers had gained from such flicks. Asha Parekh responded, “Maine picturein dekhi nahi hai toh main kaise controversy pe baat karun? I can’t comment on the debates surrounding these films because I haven’t watched them, but if logo ko pasand hai, then dekhni chahiye aise filmein. However, if individuals enjoy watching these films, they should do so.”

When discussing The Kashmir Files and its enormous box office haul Asha said, “Yes, everyone watched The Kashmir Files. Now I’m going to say something provocative. The producer of the movie made 400 crore. Jinke paase pani nahi hai, electricity nahi hai, toh unhone kitne paise diye unko jo Hindu Kashmiri hai, jo Jammu mein rehte hain? Unka share hoga, distributor ka share hoga, unhone paise kamaye hai?”

Asha Parekh’s controversial remark:

She further said, “How much money did the producers donate for the benefit of the Hindus living in Jammu without access to electricity and water? Chaliye 400 crore mein se 200 crore kamaye hai, toh 50 crore bhi toh de sakte the na. (If the film’s producers made 200 crores out of its 400 crores in revenue. Wouldn’t they have been able to donate 50 crores to aid Kashmiri Hindus)?”

The movie is produced by Vivek Agnihotri in collaboration with Abhishek Agarwal Arts and Zed Studio. And directed by Vivek Agnihotri. Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, Darshan Kumar, Prakash Belawadi, Mrinal Kulkarni, and Chinmay Mandlekar all had significant parts in The Kashmir Files. It is said to be based on actual events that occurred during the 1990 evacuation of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley.

According to a report published in 2022 by Sacnilk.com. The Kashmir Files had a budget of about 20 crore rupees and earned 295 crore in India alone.
