‘Probably the worst fielding side’ – Gautam Gambhir makes no-nonsense comments on Pakistan’s fielding
Pakistan finished outside of the semifinal during the ODI World Cup 2023 and fielding played a part
After the ODI World Cup 2023, the T20 World Cup 2024 is lined up in less than a year. After the ODI WC finished last month, the T20 WC will be played in June next year. During the tournament, England will be the defending champions, having won in 2022. They failed to defend their ODI WC title this year. Meanwhile, 2011 World Cup winners, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh had an interview with ANI.
They spoke about the chances of different teams winning the T20 World Cup.
“Biggest threat to India In T20 World Cup?”, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir gave interesting replies.
Gambhir added that Afghanistan, who was close to reaching the semis in the ODI WC, can be dangerous in the Caribbean islands.
“Afghanistan, in those conditions can be very very dangerous. Australia, because they have got impact players, and England because they play T20 cricket the way it should be played,” Gautam Gambhir said.
On the other hand, Singh said that South Africa must win the upcoming tournament, having come close in the 2023 event.
“I have different angle. I think South Africa should win. They have not won a white-ball tournament. The way I saw their progress in the 50-over World Cup and obviously Pakistan who are very dangerous,” Yuvraj Singh said.
Pakistan is probably the worst fielding side: Gautam Gambhir
“See Pakistan, their fielding is, I saw in the 50-over World Cup, probably the worst in international cricket. They will have to literally pull their socks up if they really want to compete in the T20 format,” Gautam Gambhir added.
“The amount of finals that India have reached…I don’t think Pakistan have reached anywhere close to the amount of finals that Indi have reached in the last five or six years. And you are just one step away from the trophy. hopefully in the T20 World Cup could be one.”
