In the 1000th scheduled game of the history of the IPL, Mumbai Indians played hosts to Rajasthan Royals on April 30. Since the inaugural edition in 2008, a total of 1000 games have been played including seven washouts. Also, not to forget, it was played on the 36th birthday of India and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, in the historic game, the 2008 winners Royals batted first after winning the toss.

Their openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler provided a great start with the latter playing the second fiddle. They put together 72 runs in just 7.1 overs when Buttler (18) got out. Despite three batters not even crossing the 20-run mark and five batters not crossing the double-digit mark, the team reached 211/7 at the end of the innings. This was only possible because of Jaiswal’s maiden hundred at his home ground.

Apparently, the Mumbaikar has learned and played a lot of cricket at the Wankhede Stadium. The left-hander scored 124 off just 68 balls including 16 fours and eight sixes.

In reply, the five-time winners had a poor start as they lost their birthday boy, Sharma in the second over. The likes of Cameron Green and Ishan Kishan put together 62 runs with the former doing the most damage. Kishan (28) struggled once again before getting out to Ravichandran Ashwin. Suryakumar Yadav came in and scored another quick-fire fifty before getting out in the critical stage.

However, the likes of Tim David and Tilak Varma took the team home with three balls to spare. With this, the home team chased down a 200-plus target for the first time in 15 years at Wankhede Stadium. Meanwhile, after the game, the MI fan army gave a savage reply to the Royals’ tweet. Apparently, the Jaipur-based team uploaded a picture of Sandeep Sharma dismissing Rohit Sharma with the caption ‘Sorry Wankhede’.

In reply, the MI Fan Army uploaded an image of Tim David smashing the ball and captioned ‘Sorry Rajasthan’.
