In the last group A game of the ongoing ODI World Cup qualifier 2023, the Netherlands upset the West Indies. In the game, the European side won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the decision started proving wrong for the Dutch. For the two-time World champions, West Indies, the likes of Brandon King (76) and Johnson Charles (54) put together 101 in 17.2 overs.

Both failed to score hundreds but the team kept their innings going. The likes of skipper Shai Hope (47) and an explosive hundred from Nicholas Pooran (104) helped the team reach 374/6. Apart from them, Keemo Paul (46*) played a cameo in the end. For the Netherlands, Bas de Leede and Saqib Zulfiqar took two wickets each while Logan Van Beek and Vivian Kingma took one each.

The Netherlands managed to level the game but won it in Super Over

In reply, the Orange Army had a steady start as Max O’Dowd and Vikramjit Singh put together 76 runs in 10.4 overs. Notably, their first four batters failed to score big after having starts. At one stage, the team was reduced to 170/4 in 29.1 overs. They needed another 205 runs in 20.5 overs with six wickets in hand.

At this stage, the likes of Scott Edwards (67) and Teja Nijamanaru (104) put together 143 runs in just 15 overs. This partnership kept the team in the game and started giving jitters to the Maroon Brigade. After they got out, the likes of Van Beek (28) and Aryan Dutt (16) took the close but the game ended in a tie. The game went into the Super Over.

In the one-over Eliminator, Van Beek scored 30 runs against Jason Holder. In reply, Van Beek, who bowled the Super Over, managed to defend the target. With this, they have qualified for the Super Six in the tournament.
