‘Pehle hee bowler kam, abb yeh’ – Bangalore fans frustrated as Reece Topley ruled of the game against Mumbai with dislocated shoulder

Mumbai and Bangalore kicked off their Indian T20 League 2023 campaign in M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday

Reece Topley injured in ITL opener

The Bangalore franchise suffered yet another blow owing to an injury during their opening game of the Indian T20 League (ITL) 2023 against the Mumbai franchise. First, a collision between Mohammed Siraj and Dinesh Karthik near the stumps was the reason for it. Reece Topley also had a shoulder injury while fielding in Mumbai’s inning’s eighth over.

On the third delivery of the over, Topley dove to catch the ball, which is when the incident happened. However, he landed awkwardly on his right shoulder, putting him through much pain. He needed assistance getting off the pitch as a result of the injuries. For RCB, who are already without Rajat Patidar and Josh Hazlewood while they continue to recover from injuries, the most recent injury is yet another cause for concern.

Tilak Varma remained the star for Mumbai with 84 off 46 balls

Talking of the game, Bangalore won the toss and decided to field first in front of their home crowd. Opening the batting for Mumbai, openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan could only add 11 runs for the first wicket. Mumbai struggled to keep the scoreboard ticking, but thanks to Tilak Varma’s valuable innings of 84 off 46, they reached a competitive total of 171 in their quota of 20 overs.

For Bangalore, Karn Sharma remained the pick of the bowlers as he picked up two wickets for 32 runs in his four overs. Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Akash Deep, Harshal Patel and Michael Bracewell returned with one wicket apiece. While the Bangalore batting line-up looks strong, a run chase of 172 can be tricky.

Interestingly, for ten consecutive seasons, Mumbai have not won their season openers in the ITL since 2013. If Bangalore manages to win the game, it would be Mumbai’s eleventh consecutive opener loss. So far in the Indian T20 League, home sides have been dominant; the streak broke in Sunday’s first game, where a visiting Rajasthan side comprehensively outplayed Hyderabad by 72 runs.

Here’s how fans reacted to Reece Topley’s injury update:
