It seems that the dispute the Asia Cup 2023 dispute might not solve anytime soon. Apparently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was offered to play an ODI series by Sri Lanka Cricket instead of the scheduled Test series later this year. In a few months’ time, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will start their WTC cycle 2023-25 with a two-match Test series.
However, Sri Lanka will play in the ODI World Cup 2023 qualification. They are confident of going all the way in the tournament. Meanwhile, Pakistan has rejected the proposal to play ODI cricket in the lead-up to the World Cup. Apparently, they are not happy with SLC taking a side with the Indian board on Asia Cup’s Hybrid Model.
Just like India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have rejected the idea of playing some games in the UAE. Also, SLC offered to stage the tournament entirely at home
“An example of the increasingly strained relations between the two boards emerged after the PCB turned down a proposal by the Lankans to play a few One-Day International matches next month in Sri Lanka,” the PCB source stated.
“It is a clear indication that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board stepping in to offer to host the Asia Cup in September when it is Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event at home,” the source said.
“He is disappointed at the way things have panned out in recent days especially when some of these board heads went to India for the IPL final and met with the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah,” the source added.
