PCB ends association with Mohammad Hafeez as Director of Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team

Mohammad Hafeez

In a recent piece of news, the Pakistan Cricket Board ended its association with Mohammad Hafeez, who was active as the Director of the Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team. Notably, Hafeez took over his responsibilities as Director after the Pakistan Cricket Team’s group-stage elimination from the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

However, the performance of the Pakistan Cricket Team didn’t improve even after Hafeez was appointed the Director. Alongside appointing Hafeez as Director, PCB also made the captaincy changes after former skipper Babar Azam’s resignation across all formats. Shan Masood was appointed as the Test skipper and Shaheen Afridi was named as the new T20I skipper of the men in green.

Pakistan’s dismal run continued under Mohammad Hafeez

The team faced a dismal run of form in the three-match Test Series against Australia as they lost by an embarrassing margin of 0-3, with straight defeats in all three Tests. It was also the first assignment for Mohammad Hafeez after he was appointed the Director of the team.

Furthermore, the team also lost to New Zealand by a margin of 1-4 in the five-match T20I Series. This poor performance drew a lot of criticism for Mohammad Hafeez’s role as Director.

Pakistan Cricket Board also shared a gratitude post for Mohammad Hafeez which is also being understood as the end of Hafeez’s tenure as Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team’s Director.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board extends heartfelt gratitude to Mohammad Hafeez, Director of Pakistan men’s cricket team, for his invaluable contributions. Hafeez’s passion for the game has inspired players and his mentorship during the tour of Australia and New Zealand has been of immense importance. The PCB wishes Hafeez good luck and success in his future endeavours,” read the tweet from the Pakistan Cricket Board from their official X-handle (formerly Twitter).
