The talented All-rounder’s name was in the IPL auction 2024. When his name arrived, PBKS showed interest in him and tried to get him. He was initially picked by them. But there was a huge confusion at the auction table, as PBKS denied his pick. It seemed so strange and weird, and the fans brutally attacked the franchise for playing with the confidence of the player.
After the incident, Shashank was confirmed as a player of PBKS by the franchise themselves. They took to X and announced the player to be a part of their franchise for the 17th edition of the league. “Official Update. Punjab Kings would like to clarify that Shashank Singh was always on our target list,” wrote PBKS on X to confirm the pick.

The North Indian franchise later revealed the reason behind their act of enquiring for the player. It seemed that PBKS owners were confused with Shashank, as there were two persons with the same name who had registered for the auctions. As a result, there was confusion and Punjab Kings claimed to have discussed about the same. The 2014 runner-ups confirmed the same by writing in their official update on X.
“The confusion was due to 2 players of the same name being on the list. We are delighted to have him on board and see him contribute to our success,” added the statement of PBKS. There were many players picked by PBKS in the auction. But the pick of Shashank turned out to be controversial. For the first time in the history of the IPL auction, such an incident occurred on the auction table.
