‘Paisa ho toh kya kuch nahi ho sakta’ – Fans react as Manchester City wins their fifth Premier League title in six seasons

Arsenal’s 1-0 away defeat to Nottingham Forest confirmed the Premier League title for Manchester City

Manchester City wins Premier League

After Arsenal’s loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Manchester City has won the Premier League for the fifth time in six seasons. With just one game left in the season, the outcome gives Manchester City an unstoppable four-point advantage over the Gunners at the top of the league. Arsenal’s bid to win the Premier League for the first time since 2003/04 was crushed by City thanks to an incredible run of 11 straight victories in the final weeks of the season.

At one point in January, City was eight points behind Arsenal, but the defending champions hadn’t lost since a 1-0 setback at Tottenham on February 5, when Mikel Arteta’s team stumbled. In their final home game of the year against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola’s team will compete for the trophy for the third consecutive year when they take on Chelsea live on Sky Sports on Super Sunday.

‘Being the captain has been an enormous privilege’ – Ilkay Gundogan

A Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League treble are now within reach for City, a record only accomplished once in English football by Manchester United in the 1998–99 season. As they attempt to win the European Cup for the first time, City will play Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3 and Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10.

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan said: “To have helped the Club win a third straight Premier League title is something very special. The Premier League is, without doubt, the most demanding and competitive league in the world, so that tells you everything about what an achievement this is. This squad is so talented and so special, and to have been captain this season has been an enormous privilege.”

“I would also like to thank Pep, all the backroom staff and everyone who works across this football club. Every single day they help provide us as players with everything we need in order to try to be successful. There is no way we could have won this title without all their support.”
