Playing in his first ODI World Cup, Ricky Ponting showcased brilliant resilience while facing a strong West Indies team. After a quick wicket, Australia was looking in trouble when Ponting came to bat. He started hammering all around the park and scored his first ODI World Cup century. Ponting in his inning scored 102 runs off 112 balls with the help of five boundaries and a six. His amazing batting performance helped Australia post a competitive total of 229/6 in 50 overs. However, his innings went in vain as the West Indies won the game by four wickets.
