It seems that Novak Djokovic and the Serbian squad have made the decision to leap out of an aeroplane if they win the Davis Cup, even though they are just two victories away from victory. Serbia defeated Great Britain 2-0 to secure their spot in the competition semifinals.

Their advantage came from Miomir Kecmanovic’s 7-6(2), 7-6(6) victory over Jack Draper. Cameron Norrie was then defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Novak Djokovic, guaranteeing his country’s place during the Davis Cup quarterfinals.

Both Djokovic and Serbia’s captain, Viktor Troicki, stated at the post-match news conference that if their side won the Davis Cup, everyone on the squad would jump out of an aeroplane.

Serbia defeated France during the 2010 final to win their first and only Davis Cup. Djokovic and Troicki were on the winning team during that time. At the time, the squad celebrated their victory by shaving their heads.

During the Davis Cup semifinals, Novak Djokovic will play Jannik Sinner for a fourth time this year and the sixth time ever. This is because Serbia are set to play for Italy in this round. The Serb now has a 4-1 advantage in their head-to-head match, which includes their most recent meeting in the ATP Finals final.

Djokovic declared that the match between him and Sinner was “going to be great” for the spectators in Malaga, Serbia, and Italy.

Novak Djokovic said, “Yeah, third time in a little bit more than a week [facing Sinner]. It’s going to be great, I think, for tennis fans and for both Italian sports tennis fans and Serbia, and here also in Malaga. We’re kind of developing a nice rivalry lately. You know, I have tons of respect for him.”

“He was very pumped to play for his nation” : Novak Djokovic

Sinner and Italy’s comeback against the Netherlands in the quarterfinals earned Djokovic’s admiration. He added that the result of the semifinal match might be decided by his matchup with Sinner.

The Serbian said, “You know, he’s been playing arguably the tennis of his life. I saw a little bit of singles and doubles that he won today. Amazing. Really played on a high level. I could see that he was very pumped to play for his nation. It was impressive the way they turned it around from 0-1.”
