‘Not a bad birthday present’- Twitter ecstatic as Birthday boy Robert Lewandowski’s brace lands Barcelona’s first win of the season
Robert Lewandowski signed for FC Barcelona in a deal worth £42.5 million.
FC Barcelona have been going through a torrid time for three years now. It was in 2019 when they won the LaLiga and more than eight years have passed since they won the Champions League.
A financial turmoil at the club has left it scrambling for quality players and other recruitments. This season however looks like a turnaround for the Catalan club as they bought in a hoard of world-class players like Anders Christensen, Jules Kunde and Rafinha but their biggest signing has certainly been Robert Lewandowski.
The 2021 FIFA Men’s Best awardee, Lewandowski, is one of the two best strikers in world football right now. His addition to the Barcelona team sent social media into a frenzy in July. The Polish international slotted right into the team giving some great performances in the pre-season tour.
The Spanish fans however were yet to see a masterclass performance from the 34-year-old, something that they were wowed with on Sunday. Lewandowski came up with two goals and an assist against Real Sociedad in what was a showcase of his technical abilities.
Interestingly, it was also the 34th birthday of Robert Lewandowski. The former Bayern Munich player who scored 344 goals for Bayern was at it again against Real Sociedad.
The £42.5 million deal is turning out to be very fruitful for the Catalan Club as they have started the 2022 LaLiga season in a positive fashion.
The Spanish club with legendary former player Xavi as the head coach has looked very proactive in the transfer season. They signed some quality players and have also looked to offload some deadweight in search of their former glory. They are still however not out of the financial turmoil as they still haven’t registered Jules Kunde. Barcelona need to offload a player to make room for the newly signed player. While they keep on working on that front, it is certain that their new signings, primarily Lewandowski has been a good bit of business, something that could be a harbinger of success in coming years.
Twitter was understandably buzzing with Lewandowski scoring on his birthday. Let’s look at some of the reactions to his masterclass performance.
