‘Next saala cup namde’ – Fans react to Bangalore getting eliminated from the Women’s T20 League following UP’s win over Gujarat

UP have qualified for the Playoffs.

Bangalore WTL

Gujarat and Bangalore have been eliminated from the Women’s T20 League’s debut season by UP. They won the thrilling last-over match against the Giants and will now compete in the tournament’s Eliminator. Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris once again put on a stellar display as they led the team’s effort to score 179 runs in their penultimate game in the tournament’s group stages.

How did the Gujarat and UP game pan out?

Surprisingly, Hemalatha was the more aggressive batter after Gujarat got off to a disastrous start and was playing some stunning strokes. Gardner also made amends after getting off to a shaky start. Both cricket players reached their individual half-centuries and it was poised for a strong finish.

To startle Gujarat Franchise at the end of the innings, Parshavi Chopra trounced them in back-to-back overs. They were only able to score 12 runs in the final two overs, finishing at 178/6 after 20 overs. They appeared to be on track to reach 190 at one point but significantly slowed down in the final few overs.

Alyssa Healy was only to manage a poor score as she was dismissed for 12 runs as the UP struggled to get the 179 runs necessary to guarantee their spot in the playoffs. With only 4 runs scored by Kiran Navgire and 4 runs by Devika Vaidya, the side was in trouble at 39/3.

The innings were then resurrected by Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris, not for the first time. With a fantastic half-century, McGrath may have given them the impression that he was taking the game away. But, there was still a twist in the story as she got out to Gardner on 57, which further altered the tide in the Giants’ favour as Deepti Sharma quickly followed her.

Harris and Ecclestone scored 11 runs in the 18th over, with the former blasting a massive six off Gardner to change the course of the game. Harris hit a six to reduce the score to 7 off 8 balls, but the game continued to twist when she was out while attempting to win the match.

Gujarat needed 7 runs off the last over as a result of her wicket, and Ecclestone maintained her composure to lead the side ashore with one ball remaining. This result meant both Gujarat and Bangalore were eliminated from the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League and would have to try their luck next year
